Colombian pop sensation Shakira met Monday with U.S. President Barack Obama in the White House and informed him about his role as advocate for children in poverty.
Grammy winner Shakira was in Washington to sign a 300 million dollars with the World Bank initiative aimed at helping children in Latin America and the Caribbean, and stopped by the White House to meet with officials.
“After his meeting, he stopped briefly to greet the President, and updated him on his work on the issue,” said White House spokesman Benjamin Chang.
Shakira, 33, is Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and has participated in several charitable projects, including a school to help underprivileged youth in his hometown of Barranquilla.
